William C. Schomaker, 80, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Dayton, Ohio, on December 22, 1933 to William S. and Katherine E. (Young) Schomaker. Bill was a 1952 graduate of Waite High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served 8 years active duty and 20 years in the Air Force Reserves. On September 21, 1957, he married Connie Winkelmann. Bill was employed with Gulf Oil for 18 years and later worked as a security guard for Rumpf Security and the Toledo Museum of Art, retiring in 2004. Bill was a dedicated Chicago sports fan, cheering on the Cubs, White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks. For many years, Bill coached the Raymer School boys baseball team and St. Thomas Aquinas boys and girls basketball teams. In later years, Bill enjoyed visiting the Hollywood Casino and monthly retiree breakfast with friends from the Toledo Museum of Art.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie; son, Bill (fiancée Jennifer); grandchildren, Kelsey (fiancé Michael), Alex, Anthony, Katherine, and Kara; and great-grandchildren, Daniel and Sabrina. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Muriel Parker and his parents.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Lasalle Michigan. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Wounded Warrior Project, or a favorite animal care charity of the donor'™s choice. The family wishes to thank Regina, Trixie, and Kim from Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the exceptional care given to Bill.
