William Earl Wolfe, age 65, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, February 12, 2012 surrounded by his family. Bill was born December 16, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Charles and Thelma (Eriksen) Wolfe. Bill attended Clay High School graduating in 1964. Upon graduation, Bill started out his employment as a young man washing dishes in the kitchen at St. Charles Hospital. He also had short stints at Chrysler and Chevy before starting his employment with Sun Oil Refinery in Oregon, Ohio in 1967. Bill retired at Sun Oil Refinery after 34 years of service in 2001. Bill married Joann E. Katona on October 21, 1967 at St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church and she survives. Bill also served for our country in the Army Reserves and National Guard for 11 years combined. Amongst Bills many hobbies, his favorites were fishing on Lake Erie for Walleye and Yellow Perch, hunting, snow mobile trips to Michigan and growing numerous vegetables in his garden. Bill was also an avid NASCAR fan and rooted for the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and loved the Ohio State Buckeyes and Genoa Comets. His memberships included the Sun Oil Gun Club, Cooley Canal Yacht Club and St. Michael'™s Byzantine Catholic Church. Bill cherished his family very much, especially his wife of 44 years. Bill and Joann took a well-deserved honeymoon after 20 years of marriage in 1987 to the Hawaiian Islands. They also visited St. Kitts Island for their 25th wedding anniversary in 1992. Bill and Joann were inseparable as they did many things together including yearly gambling trips in Michigan and abroad and weekly bingo adventures.
Bill will be greatly missed by his children Aaron (Cindy) Wolfe and Amy (Gary) Langenderfer; grandchildren, Chelsey, Abigail, Zachary, and Connor; brother, Jon Wolfe; brothers-in-law, Joseph Katona and Andrew Rasi; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Katona, Kathleen Katona, and Marsha Cramer; many nieces and nephews. Bill had special relationships with many friends that will also miss him. Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, James and Mary Katona; brother-in-law, James Katona; sisters-in-law, Barbara Rasi and Tonya Wolfe.
The family will receive friends at Eggleston, Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Thursday from 2pm to 8pm. Office of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday at 11am at the funeral home. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the American Cancer Society, Allen-Clay Township Fire Department, or St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church.
