Obituary

Willis P. Walker, 93, of Walbridge, Ohio passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Otterbein Retirement Village, Pemberville. Willis was born on November 22, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee to Mary Lily (Stenson) and William Lovell Walker. Willis married Marcia Janelle Elrod on October 30, 1950. They celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to her death in 2011 and shared a wonderful life together. Willis enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17, on December 8, the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed. He served as a gunners mate during the war of which he served 5 years in WWII. Willis was proud to be a Veteran and was thrilled to have made Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2013 with more of his comrades. Willis had the sea in his veins and sailed on our lakes as a wheelsman for 33 years with the Interlake Steamship Company. He retired in 1986. After retirement he worked part time for Innovative Controls. Willis was an avid Tennesee Vol's fan. He enjoyed camping with his family, playing cards, especially Poker, was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and being with family and friends. One of his favorite places was Don's Donuts where he made many friends over coffee. Willis was a rare individual who loved life and all of those around him. He will be missed by many. Willis is survived by his children, Deborah (Hal) Schultz, Dennis (Cathy) Walker; grandchildren, Aaron (April) Schultz, Dana Haase, Brandy and Ashley Schultz, Dennis (Alyson) Walker, April (Nic) Hillman; 10 great grandchildren; special niece Diane (Dave) Ludwig and nephew Terry Dale; sister-in-law, Betty Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janelle; sisters, Goldie, Gertrude and Dimples; brother, Austin; in-laws. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will take place in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Otterbein Portage Valley. Willis's family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Otterbein for the exceptional care and compassion given to him and his family.
