Obituary

Winfield 'œScott' Ritter, 88, of Pemberville, Ohio passed away September 24, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 8, 1923 to Roscoe Kirk and Edith (Vogeli) Ritter. Scott attended Navarre Elementary, Waite High School and Macomber Vocational, studying electricity. Following his early education, and working as a paper boy, he studied aeronautics and went to Wright Field, and then moved onto Romulus Airfield. He served his country as a civilian, due to a perforated eardrum, at Romulus Airfield, working as a mechanic on the air planes. After a 4 year stint there, the war was over and he went to work for Seltzer Motors. He met Marilyn (Treter) and they married in 1951. He became employed a Werley'™s Motors in Toledo. After working at Werley'™s, he was invited to join the new team to teach a new vocational school, Penta County-Auto Mechanics. He taught there for several years, and then moved on to work at Prestolite Corp. as their service engineer. His love for flying was ingrained into his being. In 1979 he obtained his pilot'™s license and was now free to fly in the sky with the 1923 Areoncia Chief he had totally rebuilt in his back yard. He has been a member of the Portage Valley Flying Club for many years. Scott won several awards for his plane. He also has been a member of the EAA for many years. Scott was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and a member of the adult choir. Music also played a prominent part in his life. In 1946 he became an official member of the Toledo Chapter of the SPEBSQSA'¦Barbershop! His first quartet was with his father and brothers, and then he helped to form the quartet: The Toledo Troubadours. Following this he, his brother, Gene, Jim Rowe and Earl Maxfield made up the Marxman quartet. He is still a member of the Maumee Valley Barbershop-0 Chapter'¦harmonizing in heaven. Scott was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl and Eugene. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marilyn; children, Janet (Don) Davies, Thomas (Cindy) Ritter, William (Lois) Ritter; grandchildren, Jesse (Dolly) Frank, Joshua (Jennifer) Frank, Sara (Luke) Shortridge, Nicole (Doug) Manteuffel, Eric Ritter and Jeffrey Ritter; great grandchildren, Jackson and Asa Shortridge. Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road, on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., and where the family will greet friends from 10 -11 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa hills Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy in Scott'™s memory can be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or Maumee Valley Seaway Commanders Barbershop Corps, 345 W.S. Boundary Rd., Perrysburg, OH 43551. Scott was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He was one in a million. There will never be another one like him. He will be truly missed and always remembered in our hearts.
